Anyone been damaged by the big Mcafee gaff? 50% of our work computers crashed on Wednesday and we could do little work yesterday as they all had to be fixed individulally on site.... with 2000 terminals down, could be a long wait.....

Fraud Refund Declined will chargeback work?
I have posted elsewhere on this problem but still need help on specific issues.

I suffered 30 fraud transactions all online purchases during trip to South Africa.

During trip my card was barred a few times and I had to confirm transactions. On two of these calls I incorrectly confirmed a total of 5 transactions which turned out to be fraud. By time I had a chance to check statement (5 days after last call) and call credit card company to advise fraud and also advise that I had made a mistake on the last two calls £3300 had been taken with most to the same online flight company.

Egg credit card has eventually (after 3 months) said they will not refund as I made an error with the security calls and have denied all transactions BEFORE and after the first security call where I made an error. I can understand the refusal of all stuff after I made an error but NOT the ones that were processed before the error. They treat the case as one fraud and not separate transactions - this still makes no sense and all Egg say is that is the way it is.

Does anybody know if this is a valid reason to throw out the claim or is there any give and take depending on exact circumstances of making mistakes on transaction checks.??? Any point in appealing to FOS or is it just tough luck should have been more careful with the phone calls. They said that FOS gave them guideline that it was ok to refuse the claim- so what would be point in appealing unless egg were vague with the full story.

I have subsequently asked them to do a chargeback which they appear to be happy to do but they also said if I do it and the chargebacks are not successful then my rights to appeal this case are gone ????

Does this sound right. They have also said that the letter advising that the FRAUD claim was not successful will now no longer be sent to me and that it would not be a clever idea to proceed with my letter of complaint to Egg about their verbal decision and for me wanting to get transcript copies of the calls so I can see exactlly what I agreed to and whether or not they gave adequate data etc as they said that this may compromise things with the chargeback as it would go to FOS and also to merchant which may give them reason to refute the chargeback ?????

Also do they advise the merchant that I made an error - is this part of their procedures as if they do it sounds like irrespective whether the transactions are clearly fraud and very little data about me was provided and 26 different people flying with ID's that are not me suddenly goes out the window because I made a mistake and authorised the first two transactions but not the next 24 or whatever and that allows them to get off the hook for not having enough checks on credit card purchase.

I have Mastercard Secure code on my egg credit card. I looked at 1time flight company web site and I can see they need card details, name , email, mobile number, name of passenger and name of cardholder to issue ticket. How come the password was not requested ? is it just because the merchant chooses not to use this security feature on their web site.

I assumed if I had this it would protect me for all on line transactions everywhere. If its only the dodgy merchants who dont use it then the fraudsters will just use the dodgy sites and no protection at all is provided from the fraudsters.

All they will have is my card details and name. Their web site also say they need to show ID at checkin so 26 people who are not me got onto a plane bought with my credit card.

Clearly they must have had card number and my name but they wont have my email addy or mobile phone and why would I be buying 26 flight tickets for other people. I can probably prove I was elsewhere anyway for most of the flights with all my various genuine transactions which will locate where I was.

So how come Egg are happy to do a chargeback but not treat it as fraud. Surely Chargeback is to do with merchant not having adequate data to accept the payment.

I am woried that we do the chargeback and then the flight co saying yes we have the card number and the cardholders name but for every ticket there is a different email, different mobile number and different person boarding the plane and then that being ok for them to be able to get the chargeback returned and me left with nothing.

and why are egg happy to do chargeback even though they have refused the fraud claim - are they being nice to me they said they were bending over backwards to try and help me with this !!!!

Any extra info to do with implications of me being stupid with the phone calls and what an online sale merchant needs to prove to be able to get out of chargeback would be useful. Surely they need more than just the card details and name.

GMTV and 121 stuck in bangkok
Well after a lot of calls with princess and them washing their hands of them. GMTV this morning will be covering their story. They are no longer allowed to leave the hotel due to the grenades being thrown. The earliest people can leave is the 5th may and some people the 15th someone has been hospitlised due to the stress! Lets hope this makes princess realise their legal duty as it was a package holiday flights n a cruise and hotel accomodation all for one price.
